I haven't seen ACLU tracking this data. I am wondering how we make is more visible, how every citizen has a due process tree on their property that the tie white ribbons to for every collective and individual instance of due process denied, the way in the Vietnam war the crosses made visible the deaths. These are deaths of our rights as individual citizens that are disappearing and the time to say we will not stand for this, in the form of collective action is now.
You are not over-reacting, the American public is under-reacting, thinking this is not their problem. This is our problem, this isn't just about scientists, or university funding, this is about basic human rights.

No one can blame them and there has been talks of a ‘brain drain’. I have never had any desire to go to the US but if I had I would certainly rule it out. You have quite rightly used the word ‘regime’ and that is exactly what it is. Many have often talked of the relatively few days Hitler took to destroy Germany, Trump has beaten that in my view. Sadly it can only get worse and countries need to prepare for the worst; I don’t think it’s even worth hoping for the best as it’s just not going to happen!!

In another report I read that French firms with U.S. contracts are being given 5 days to remove any DEI/affirmative action from their firms or face losing their contracts. That may put them in breach of French legislation.
Totally agree. ESTA requires each visitor to list social media sites they are using. So even if I leave my devices behind my online footprint is there to see. So I will sit out visits to close relatives in USA for the next four years at least.
It may seem lazy to make again the connection between Hitler's Germany and Trump's USA. However, the spectre of black-clad agents dismounting anonymous trucks to sweep up people who carry their 'guilt' in their skin colour and their exercise of free speech rights is sickening. Gestapo tactics may seem like a hyperbolic label for these events, but for Jews in Europe in the 1940s, who were swept up like so much trash, that label would resonate. Fine people will shun the USA - does that help either democracy or the advancement of a society based on good governance, excellence in science and the best for Americans?
Not lazy. Doubtless this happened also, in Rwanda, former Yugoslavia. Cambodia. However these are not well documented .. Europe is. So when discussing these phenomena .. use examples that people are familiar with.
