In early March, I warned of authoritarian like attacks on science and universities. Six weeks later and the Trump administration has gone even further than feared.
Clearly, a useful exercise. I would like to comment on two lines of the spread sheet.
Autism - I take no side in this but note that the incidence is now 1:31 - this alone requires action, and vaccines need to be considered alongside the 2014 change in diagnosis criteria, and many other matters. I follow a US substack - Sensible Medicine - they have a topical and guest post on Autism - it claims and demonstrates that autism has been neglected cf other conditions. https://tinyurl.com/4un7fa6k . The guest post raises the question in my mind - was this deliberate, get the answer a party needs and then stop further work.
The other line I would like to comment on is paraphrased as Research needs to follow Government Policies, and I have to say that I fully concur. The Govt has been elected by the people and it's the peoples' money that is funding research, I see this as a positive from Trump, one of the few.
Thank you again for documenting the rise in authoritarianism in the US. It is particularly concerning to witness the attacks on science and academia in general. I always believed that the rise in authoritarianism was a slow but sustained process and the need to document lest we forget! However the Trump regime has escalated it in these first hundred days far beyond what I envisaged. It is more important to log the changes which you have done perfectly. You point out the years it could take to row back on many and consequently the damage. However your road map of these significant changes can also hopefully provide a way back eventually and the need to stand up and challenge!
Thank your for continuing to track and aggregate the data on Trumps war on education and science. Its staggering, and it's only one of the many fronts eroding the foundation of our society. I'm sharing this post with my network.
I'm wondering if you are aggregating data on incidents of delayed and denied due process? The Trump administrations increasing claims that a person is a terrorist, the false reasons for arresting, deporting, and disappearing people without out any justification or justice is a 5 alarm bell for me.
MLK said "justice delayed is justice denied", under the Trump administrations I believe due process delayed is due process denied, and I believe this isn't just about immigrants, this is an issue for everyone and erodes the very foundation of our democracy.
Christina is providing a hugely valuable service by painstakingly documenting these odious activities against science and academia. Seeing them collected together makes one shudder, even more than more than reading about (some of) them, drip by drip, in real time.
THANK YOU for providing this information. I "know" trump and his regime is authoritarian, fascist, nazi, but I can't put it into words. Your articles help me give concrete examples to 'non-believers'. Please keep up your good work.
Thank you so much for keeping the receipts. We will need this when the history comes to be written and lessons learned. While Trump has understood some of the undesirable effects of the way the USA operates, the root cause diagnosis and the solutions being implemented and how they are being implemented are devastatingly damaging to the wellbeing of ordinary people.
Great work as always.
Thank you for your ongoing work in documenting this!

Thank you, Christina
Trump is diverting resources to war with China. Of course, university fundings will be the casualties.

Professor Pagel: truly outstanding (and hair-raising) work. Thank you!
Today also marks a moment in the subordination of academia and knowledge to the Xi Jinping’s Restoration. See:
